Reviews about Freedom Mobile

The guys at this location are great, from a service standpoint. Freedom's phone support sucks and they speak "Engrish" fairly terribly. Gautam really went above and beyond for me, but the language barrier dealing with Freedom's service wing over the phone is terrible. I came to the Peterborough location after the guys in Bowmanville told me the company didn't provide coverage in Cobourg. Gautam told me they did, with certain restrictions (2000 away minutes a month and certain data restrictions -- which I'll get into) and so I prepaid for an awesome Samsung S9 Plus on preorder. Freedom was offering the phone for less than half the retail cost (~$500) over a two year contract. This price can't and very likely won't be beat by any of the big three. When I picked up my phone, I thought everything would be cool, but, after arriving home 50 kms away, I learned they refused to port my old number because, surprise, surprise: They DON'T offer bloody coverage in my area! Guess what though... They DO offer coverage, but only a small percentage of Freedom employees are aware of this. Changes were made recently, but apparently word hasn't spread to India yet, where the majority of the service reps are obviously from (no hate, just sayin'). So, after dealing with two service reps who couldn't communicate more than two words in English, I drove to Peterborough yet again to get Gautam's help. Even he thought it was stupid they wouldn't port my number. Yet, they insisted I would have to get a new number because -- you guessed it, they don't offer coverage in my area, even though they have deals with Rogers and Bell to allow their away customers access. I'm rambling, I know. But, these guys need to get their ducks in a row. I was up to four Freedom employees who'd told me there was no way for me to get the uber-cheap phone and coverage deal being offered. This, after I'd signed paperwork and took a $1200 phone from the company. My rating is for Guatam's service only. Freedom has made this ordeal frustrating. I'm only sticking with them because: A) I got an awesome phone for half the retail cost. B) The coverage, even though they DON'T offer coverage in my area, is awesome. C) The data speeds in their official coverage zones are super fast LTE. After my bandwidth is throttled after 250 mb, it's still fast enough to browse, use Google Maps, and upload Instagram posts. I knocked a star off because I was originally led to believe (by Gautam's partner) that my data would be restricted to 250 mb/s speeds in the away zone where I live (and 5 gb/s in the home zone), and that there was no data caps. This was a surprise because most carriers advertise the data cap placed on a plan and not the speed. The first day I had the phone, I quickly realised that in fact there was a data cap of 250 mb/month in my area. No surprise here, but still a bummer. This isn't a deal breaker, but I'm not going to be uploading YT or Insta vids from remote locations like I'd hoped. And hey, it's far better than roaming charges, which I've been assured multiple times wouldn't be an issue. The fact my speeds are throttled leaves me hopeful there will be no surprises on my first bill. Gautam gets 4 stars. Freedom's phone service gets an abysmal 0.5 stars for being clueless, disjointed, and retarded for making me give up my old phone number. The future is yet to be decided, but my phone is awesome and the coverage is doing the trick.
